"Sir Albert Chadwick's life was one of great achievement and is integral to the story of modern Australia. As a teenager he was a member of one of the most decorated and famous squadrons of the Australian Flying Corps in World War I. A gifted footballer he was captain-coach of the Melbourne Football Club's 1926 premiership team and retained a close relationship with the Football Club through his long life. During World War II, he combined business interests with the important role of recruiting for the RAAF, and later led Victoria's Gas and Fuel Corporation in the radical transformation that occurred in Victorian homes with the discovery of the Bass Strait oil and gas fields. He joined the Melbourne Cricket Club committee in 1941 and led the club's management of the development of the MCG for the 1956 Olympics. From 1965 to 1979 he was president of the MCC, the 19th individual to hold that honour since the club was founded in 1838." -- Inside cover
